045 – San Valentín | Saint Valentine

We started off this week with Valentine’s Day, or “El Día del Amor y la Amistad” in Mexico. Of course, most of us are familiar with celebrating love on this day with gifts or romantic gestures, but how did Valentine’s day come to be?

Jim and May run down the list of stories surrounding the origin of Valentine’s Day.

Who was Saint Valentine? How has the Catholic church played a role in this day throughout the centuries? What is Lupercalia?

Get all these questions answered and more!

And of course, learn how Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Mexico. It’s a little different if you can’t tell by the difference in names for the day itself.

Jim shares his memories of exchanging cards and candy in school and the typical customs that couples have in the US. May speaks on writing letters for all her classmates as a young girl.
